I spent a little time with this beauty this morning. They are amazing little birds. This male was defending his territory. I used the R1 with the 100-300mm + 2x. This was 4k at 60fps
Excellent short clip showing off these beautiful birds.

I'm working on a longer, more detailed video of a wonderful time I had with a Pied-billed Grebe family this summer. However, this short "trailer" will give you a taste of what I saw and experienced.
Camera: Canon R5
Lenses: Canon RF200-800, RF 1.4x tc,
Video format: All footage shot at 4K60p crop
Editing: Davinci Resolve 19

Nice preview Rudy! Looking foreward to seeing the full length video.
I liked the stop motion you used on the feeding of the one young Grebe so I could see what it was eating.

A small clip of these little guys flapping at 120 fps.
Beautiful. I assume these are playing back at full speed. A couple of years ago I recorded some hummingbirds with my R3 in High Frame Rate Movie mode, where they get recorded at 120 or 240 fps but played back at 30 fps (i.e. in slow motion), and discovered I could see things that I had no idea were happening when watching at full speed (https://youtu.be/TJgeihZhI7c). It was fascinating. I would love to see yours played at 30 fps.

Thank you, this is being play at 29.97fps on the Premiere timeline. They flap so fast 240fps would be better for what you are talking about. This is only a 4x slow down which is not that much for their flap speed.

Thank you, Dave. I find that stop action is a really helpful in situations like this.
By the way, as you can see my joy for being out there in nature and doing video has returned to me in full measure. It was looking pretty grim there for a few months.

This American Bullfrog is hanging around a pond with other Bullfrogs, croaking.
He decides to charge at another Bullfrog.
At Ted Shanks Conservation Area in Pike County, Missouri.
Canon R5 MKII and RF 200-800mm. 4K fine.

Hi Dave,
An excellent little vignette of frogs in the pond. The colours and sharpeness of the details are great and the audio is nice and clear. Bravo!

American Bullfrogs, frog on frog, preparing to maybe lay thousands of eggs.
From my reading, they lay eggs one or two times a year.
This is the position they get in for the approximate 12-15 minute egg laying process. (Have sound on for video)
At Ted Shanks Conservation area, in a small roadside pond in Pike County, MO.

Nice story Rudy!
The soundtrack was super, changing moods and bird sounds included. You really seem to have mastered the short information wildlife video format. It is always enjoyable to watch, and I feel I learn something from each of your offerings.
Keep them coming,
Dave
