I just picked up the DJI OSMO 8. First time using any gimbal. I used Kenzie as my model. So far I am very pleased it. This should pair well with my Canon C50. This will be a great compliment for our hiking, camping and kayak adventures. I want to try a gimbal without spending big money and this should get my feet wet. If I really like a gimbal I may jump you to a full size for the C50. I just really did not want much more to carry around. I think this will fill in nicely.
Rob,
Looks good. I'm assuming you used a cell phone with this.
Seemed very smooth to my eyes.
Love you testing out this stuff and sharing.

Thanks Dave, yes this was with my iPhone. This gimbal is only for phones. I wanted something small and seeing I have my phone with me, it made some sense. Happy to share.
Interestingly, I wasn't expecting to see anything worth shooting yesterday and went out without my variable neutral density filter because the sky was so overcast. By noon I came across two beautiful bright white Trumpeter Swans feeding together with some very dark-coloured Canada Geese and Wood Duck males. It had turned to full sun and the wide dynamic range scene was perfect for shooting in C-log3, however, it was too bright to shoot without a VND. So what I did was shoot in 4K120 which reduced the exposure by two full stops and put my histogram in the right place. Then in post I sped up the footage by 2.5 to 3 times to bring the movement closer to a normal more interesting speed.

Nice Rudy!
The contrast of the white Swans and the Wood Ducks was outstanding!
A soothing video to watch, very relaxing.

Thanks a lot Dave. It was so great to finally be able to get outside with my gear and sit by the water without freezing my buns off for a change. Man, this has been the winter from H*ll up here this year, I'm so glad it's finally over. Really looking forward to a wonderful year out there filming the wildlife.
Cheers,
Rudy

Nice job Dave. That 200-800mm seems to do well for video. I would assume zooming messes up exposure not being a constant aperture?

A small clip of coyotes marking the area. They were lying down as a bobcat ran by. They both got up on alert because of the bobcat. I wish I got the bobcat too but it was only about 6 feet from me and behind a fence. The bobcat disappeared in a flash. I used the Canon R1 withe the RF 100-300mm with the 2x resting on a fence post.

It does seem to do fine. It really is not very smooth at zooming, so I rarely zoom when shooting video. My preferred shooting is short clips, usually less than 1 minute. So I might change length between clips. Or zoom in post processing. I also usually use auto ISO, so it would change it if zooming.Ok as long as the light does not change during clip.

Rob,
Funny how they try to cover up each other's scents. Just like our neighborhood dogs.

Wonderful short clip, Dave, with really nice clarity and colours. Well done.

Hey Rob, perfect thumbnail with great display font choice, nice clear footage showing interesting behaviour, good music for highlighting these menacing predators.
Cheers,

Here is one, sorry only with my iPhone. This is my small pond I built, I love this time of year as we get different visitors to the pond and the plant growth changes daily. I tested out the Freewell VND filter for the phone and the natural sound was with the DJI Mic 3. Went will a little different look with this.

Rob, what a lovely structure to have right in your own yard. I'm envious. Image quality leaves something to be desired compared to the R1, C50 and the RF 100-300/ 2.8. But I'm sure you've got some planmed uses in mind.

Thanks for the honest input. I agree on image quality. I am still finding out what is working best for processing the iPhone. I am using Log with the Black magic app. I think I baked a LUT into the final footage. I believe I fixed that now. I will never expect the same quality at all. What I am hoping for is for our camping adventures this year. I am hoping to use the gimbal with the phone for a light weight solution. I may just end up getting the full gimbal for the C50 but I want to play and learn this a bit.
One thing I am impressed with is the DJI Mic 3, that can work as a stand alone. I have just clipped it to a branch and let it record natural sounds. Picks up a lot for its size.

Nice video, but after seeing your other work, you can tell it is not as good.
But it might work for B-roll on your camping.

I've been doing some research into the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. It looks like a real winner for what you're looking to do. After watching several reviews and tutorials I am regretting buying my mini Weebill 3E gimbal instead of the Pocket 3.

Yes I looked into the pocket 3 also. I really liked the ability to zoom for what I wanted it for. That is why I went the mobile phone direction. The pocket 3 seems like a great design.
