I only use 4 for work each day with no surplus, but I have about 50 in a cabinet.
They're all my father's and grandfather's from the late 40's on and have only sentimental value.

10 get used regularly, carried in different combinations depending on where I'm shooting and how much hiking is involved. 1 lives on an old Canon IR conversion.

I have a lot, probably close to 100 but not sure of the specific count. 31 CV lenses (14 E-mount, 6 X-mount, 11 VM/LTM), around 20 MS-Optics (M), 6 Kistar (C/Y, M, E) around 10+ other M (none from Leica). Around 15+ AF lenses for E-mount (10 Sony, 5 Sigma, 1 Zeiss Batis, Samyang Remaster Slim set). 3 of the AF lenses are zooms and rest are primes. Around 15 legacy SLR lenses.

Some groups are not in active use, esp. the legacy SLR lenses.

Juha over here making everyone else feel a little less guilty

Do you have a favourite to pick up of the e-mount CV lenses when you head out?

I usually choose one camera (most often my A7CII) and one lens for a day out, and it's usually a different lens each time on consecutive days and weeks. Been using 28/1.5, 50/1, 12/5.6 (I just acquired a used copy last month, it was the only CV E lens I had never owned before), 75/1.8, 75/1.5, 35/2 APO, 50/2 APO most recently.

I think I’m at 13. 5 primes that are often used, 2 vintage primes that are rarely used. 4 zooms that at least make it in the bag and a couple zooms that rarely leave home.

I’m pretty happy with the primes, still trying to sort my zoom situation. And sometimes I think I would like to pickup a set of small vintage Pentax primes or some Voigtlander primes, even though I really don’t like MF.

Not that my lens collection makes sense, but I don’t see the rationale in the three zooms hovering around 24-70 nor the three primes 14-16. Sure, I have too many 50s and two more 28s than I need, but I have no overlapping zooms. 🙃

Sort of like, Bilbo Baggins:

I have more than half the lenses I should own, and I own less than half that I should like.

11 across 3 different mounts... Oh wait is that 12 across 4 mounts, since I have a Sony 18-55 kit lens too. However, 8 of these are in the single mount (Canon EF): 4 primes and 4 zooms.

That sounds insane but here in this thread I feel a little less crazy. 🤣 And all but 1 of these lenses can be used on a single platform (mostly adapted, but I'm fine with that) so almost all do get used from time to time, and about 5 are used frequently (though of course I never use the 70-200 and 100-400, or the 85/1.8 and 70-200, on the same shoot, or the same vacation).

What really IS unsound is that I'm still contemplating at least a couple lenses even though I'm probably stocked for the rest of my life actually. 😕

I have the 16-35/2.8 GM II - and almost never use it; except on landscapes when travelling. Thinking of selling it for a smaller lens. Can you speak to the 16-25/2.8G vs 16-35/4? How do you compare them and when do you choose one over the other?

Agree, Jim!.

Just got the Viltrox 14, will test it against the CV 15, If the Viltrox is as sharp as the CV, I may sell the CV, but I will miss the sunstar for sure.

I will sell the Sony 16-25 f2.8 G, the range is too limited as a walk around lens. I bought it for my daughter's wedding but never got to use it. I used the Tamron 35-150 the entire time. I bought the Tamron for the wedding and was going to sell it afterwards, now my church is asking me to shoot some events and headshots occasionally, I will keep the Tammy for that.

The Sony 28-60 is so tiny and surprisingly sharp. I haven't used it for a while. It sells for around $200 on B&S board, maybe it's time to find it a new home.

I just got another Sony 20-70 f4, great travel lens for landscape stuff. I will test it against my Sony 24-70 F2.8 GM II, if the sharpness is about the same, I will probably sell the GM II.

I bought back a Sony 100-400 GM for some air to air shoots last year, this copy is so sharp that I kept it afterwards and used it for landscape. Will test the new-to-me Tamron 50-400 against the 100-400 GM, If the sharpness is about the same, I will sell the GM. I don't shoot this lens at 20 FPS so the 15 FPS limitation on the Tammy doesn't bother me much. This range for me is more for landscape, the lighter, the smaller, the better.

I sold me 200-600 after I bought the 400-800. I just bought another 200-600 here to use it for video, which I am just starting to learn. I will use a dual gimbal head, the A1+200-600 on one side for video, the A1II +400-800 (or the 600 GM, or the 300GM+2X TC) ) on the other side for still. I haven't used the 600 GM for many months, maybe even that lens will get on the chopping block! Another lens on the list that I rarely use, if ever, if the Sigma 35 f2, maybe it's time to found it a new home too.

The two Canon lenses are for my infrared Canon R5. They are quite sharp, very light and small, have very little hot spot issue. I love them for IR shots.

Definitely need to do some house cleaning, maybe after the holiday. I have six tripods...Will try to get down to three

Sorry I missed your post when I was writing up mine above. As I said in my post above, I bought the Sony 16-25 F2.8 G specifically for my daughter's wedding (with the Tamron 35-150), but didn't get to use it. I haven't done a comparison between the 16-25 F2.8 and the PZ 16-35 f4, I was going to sell the PZ 16-35 . I have seen enough online comparisons that I feel they are both equally sharp. They are about the same size and weight. For me, the choice is really wider FL range or brighter aperture. If you need F2.8, you need F2.8. The FL range of the 16-25 is a bit too limited as a single walk-around lens, but if you have another lens to go with it, I think it's great. I will be selling mine soon.

Counting them may lead to having to accept a problem. And ignorance can be, and in this circumstance certainly is, bliss.
