On paper A7RIVa-A7RV(I) are superior over Hasselblad or Fuji GFX, the reasons are size/weight, price, AF, and lens availability. There are dozens of high resolution lenses, also with high aperture option which is lacking on MF. My best specification kit was A7RV with 20G, 35GM, 50 1.2GM, 65 APO.
Ended up with GFX100RF (still have an A7RIVa 35GM and 65 APO but considering selling them because the lack of usage). The ironic reason was Sony's capability, I wanted to shoot every scenario, lot of action shoots of my kids, chasing the best possible moments. And Sony kept serving perfectly, over 95%

Yes, for sports, birding, range of lenses, the Sony outcompetes the Hasselblad. Anything fast and erratic, I’m sure the A7Rvi will outperform the A7Rv which betters the X2D2. Low light autofocus will likely find the X2D2 the winner in that it can use Lidar for near subjects. It is pretty surprising how much background blur you can get with f/2.5 on a medium format camera. The X2D2 slow shutter performance with IBIS is world class as is high the ISO performance. Lastly, size/weight of the Hasselblad body and lenses are surprisingly small/light. I believe that it is the leaf shutter equipped lens pricing that makes Hasselblad a difficult system to transition into. Leica and Hasselblad have far better menus. Hopefully, the A7Rvi will see Sony upping their game. Also, for me at least, the ergonomics of the X2D2 in hand bests the A7Rv.

Here is a comparison of two lenses with basically the same aperture and taken in the same area. The medium format lens is a bit wider. With regards to chasing kids, I must agree that a zoom lens on a Sony is ideal, but I have many rangefinder film images of my kids in very active environments.

Given the $5000 price point (when the R5ii MSRP is $3899) I would be expecting Sony to be pulling out something special.

I suspect Sony could very well use stacked sensor technology to improve image quality instead of just readout speed

Sony has claimed before that multi-layered stacked sensors can improve dynamic range, resolution, noise performance and reduce power consumpton:

(slide 16)
https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/business_segment_meeting/pdf/2025/ISS_E.pdf

Or they could be using nano prisms. If red light can be diverted from the green and blue pixels back onto the red pixel and vice versa then this could potentially reduce false color, chroma moire, improve ISO sensitivity by like up to 2-3 stops, ...

Read the manual - if you want realtime evf then you must use H(7fps) not H+(10fps). Same applies to the A6700.

This camera has not competition when it comes to the combination of detail, DR and subject detection/AF performance. Those stacked sensor colours are just a little bit washed out by comparison imo.

Yes, but try that 7FPS ES with a flying BIF or even a moving mammal.
The 61MP Sony sensor sure in the best for IQ, and I'm hoping the a7rVI does not lose much IQ even if it is somewhat stackable.
I think that's been the challenge faced by Sony and why it is taking so long since the a7rIV to develop a new sensor.

FPS doesn't matter when the ES images are like moving Jell-o.

I used the 5DsR in '15 and '16 for certain wildlife for reach, but that's what we had at the time. My hope is that the a7rVI could be used 60-70% of the time rather than the V 30% of the time for me now.

Surely there are enough camera choices with Sony for birds. Hoping the A7r6 doesn’t become another bird camera. Rather I’d like to see the A7r6 focus more on street and landscape needs.

Yeah I was really hoping it would be 94mp. Essentially just a full frame version of the Fuji 40mp APS-C sensor. It is true that Sony needs a camera to compete with the Canon R5MK2 and Nikon Z8 but that camera shouldn’t be the A7RVI. The R cameras are supposed to prioritize image quality and resolution over everything else.

Also while Sony doesn’t have a competitor to the R5MK2 and Z8 Canon and Nikon don’t have a true competitor to the A7RV. Nikon’s Z7 line was their competitor to Sony’s R line but it has been neglected for years and is now largely irrelevant.

Sony a1 mk 1 could be considered a competition to z8 and r5ii. It is still more expensive tho.

Btw, how cameras are segmentem/tiered does not have to be the same for every company. So maybe comparing one canon to sony or Nikon cameras as Direct competition is a 'mistake' in first place. Of course such a comparision seems natural,.for me.too ... But maybe companies do not think that way.

How exactly would those be different?
Isn't the a7CR a smaller and slower hi-res option at lower cost? Probably there would be a version with the new sensor after a while.

For street I’d like to see focus on low light low noise high iso capabilities with as much ibis they can squeeze out. For landscape I’d like to see higher megapixels and lower base iso along with focus on dynamic range at low iso.

No need for fast fps nor any advancement for better AF than what’s in the A7r5. Really no need for any stacked sensor.

There was no real need for MILS except the videos, but here we are without DSLRs.
I doubt there will be all the different kinds of sensors in the long term. Maybe Leica or other companies will make low volume specialty cameras, but the trend is to improve IQ in the somewhat stacked sensors and have that be fast enough for many purposes. It's only a matter of time.
Your a7rV will be viable for at least another generation if you don't want to upgrade.

This makes me think of the M12 design where Leica chose not to use this new Sony sensor, but rather design one specifically for this new generation of Leica cameras. Unfortunately, the M12 will not mount your Sony glass, but great lenses it certainly has. I’m guessing that Sony will market this to the parent that shoots youth soccer on the weekends and landscapes/street when vacationing. Meaning, a speed boost, for sure and a likely modest boost in dynamic range and high iso noise reduction. Also, it is likely that the A7Rvi will have a slightly larger grip to accommodate the new higher capacity battery.

It seems pretty clear to me that that A7C III will have the same sensor as the A7 V and the A7Cr II will have the same sensor as this A7r VI. This A7r VI (and presumably the A7Cr II) will both be good landscape cameras at least as good as the last generation and for some street photographers they will appreciate the faster sensor scan speed to use the silent electronic shutter more often. If targets aren't moving too quickly (e.g., people walking) this electronic shutter ought to work fine and allow silent shooting that some people will appreciate for street.

I'm not experienced with Sony launches. Will the online stores be pre-ordering at that time? I had to be poised at 3AM to get a shot at the R5 II.

Hard to say these days. It could go on sale the same day or months later. Depends on how many they have stockpiled I suppose.
I don't think there's a rush for Sony either to get these out before the World Cup (unless the camera is the A9R).

Seems like pre orders start the day after announcing. Usually the websites go live with the info during announcement and give a time that pre orders will open the next day.

An A7Rx with the frame rates at mere mortal, not superhero, frame rates using the A1 sensor in the most recent body (A9iii?) could be interesting. The "more res" folks wouldn't like it. I'd like it. I like the the 61mp but could adjust to 50mp easily.

It could be a drop in for the A7CRi, too. Spiff up the finder and they're done.

I don't know the Sony/World Cup relationship and for advertising and on the pro coverage side it's spread over quite a few stadiums in North America so maybe more a soccer/football fan draw more than general tourism centered on a host city/region?

I currently have two A1s. The price increase and somewhat lackluster improvements(for my uses) on the A1 II were reasons I chose not to upgrade. I do think that the A7R and an A9III might give me two cameras that could cover everything that I need and give me more capabilities than I currently have. I'll be curious to see what the price is.
