memzenia, you are very welcome. I posted this several days ago and I kept seeing 2 available. I think no one clicked on the 2nd page where it is all by it's lonesome! Hope your partner enjoy using it.

Now I keep checking, and there's only 1 left. lol. I have a feeling I'll be using the 28mm with his Z5.
I received my 28/2.8 SE today and am very much impressed by the AI/AI-S lens look and feel, particularly the smoothness of the focus ring, which gives you a sense of joy for holding it in your hands. As a comparison, 40/2 feels nothing special at all. Get the SE version only.
I've been using this lens around the house and on a few family outings. Love the size and handling so far. Does a great job of just getting out of the way.
Took the new 28mm/2.8 out for a walk around in the NuLu section of Louisville - lots of old buildings and hipster shops. I am not a pixel peeper but they all looked good to me. Lens on the Z6 is very unobtrusive and you hardly get noticed. Was invited into the workshop of local store that makes furniture items out of old bourbon barrels.. sort of interesting if you are into that. Anyway really liked the results. The last B&W is a pretty severe crop of a full frame ( about the middle 1/3) and is still very sharp. Here is a link to the album.....
Received the 28mm SE version of the lens today. Surprisingly B&H had it in stock and I got it in 2 days! At least the SE version doesn't feel cheaply build for a $300 lens and the plastic mount doesn't bother me. I took it out for a spin and asked Her Majesty to allow me to take few pictures. Overall I'm quiet happy with the lens, except the sunstar is almost non-existent. I was thinking whether I should take the FTZ adapter with Nikon 28mm 1.8G or the z 28mm 2.8 option, and going by the results, I think the latter is a better option for a lightweight, carry everywhere setup.
Some of the first images with my 28mm 2.8 (opted for the non-SE, just felt it fit the Z aesthetic better).
The lens, in some ways, reminds me of the 18.5 (28mm equiv.) lens on the Ricoh GR. A fairly even lens, in my opinion, not overly contrasty and renders slightly on the cool side.
OOF areas and transitions are surprisingly good for a 28mm 2.8. MFD performance is stronger than its 40mm sibling.
Okay, silly request coming up... I used to own the 28/1.4 AF-D and sold it prior to going mirrorless since it was going to be manual focus only. Obviously some folks are using the 28/1.4E + FTZ on the Z bodies. My question does anybody own both the 28 1.4 and this little 2.8 that could post some side-by-side comps at full aperture and then again both at f2.8? I am curious as this little lens has a really unique look I am liking and seems sharper centrally than the f1.4 at the more open apertures. OF course it's virtually a no-brainer for it's price and I'll probably order one regardless, but I am curious

I think I can help with that. What focusing distance(s) do you want covered?

Closer mid distance is fine, like for full-body kids -- say 6 feet or thereabouts? Ideally both at max aperture and then a comparison from the 1.4 at f2.8 as well?
Perfect, shows me exactly what I wanted to see -- thank you! I now have the 28/2.8 on order
It’s a compact, light and flexible lens indeed, and one that I enjoy a lot. The 1.4D is really nice in very specific scenarios, but I like it the most shooting analog.
