Some of you who've been putting up with me for a few years may remember that I went to Easter Island with my daughter exactly two years ago, only to come home not with what I wanted: night shots of the moai. This had two reasons - mainly because my research about access was based on my first attempt to go there, in April of 2020, but we all know how that went; and they had dramatically changed access rules since then. The other reason was that I forgot some key components of my camera gear at home, for which there's little excuse. I was frustrated to no avail, but with 36 hours door to door each way this felt like something to get over.
However, since I already had to have a layover at SCL to get to the pumas, I figured... why not try my luck again, it's just a short six hour hop away. This time I knew ... how to make the right donations, and triple checked not to leave any gear at home. Why pack clothing only for one season if you can pack for two, not to mention diametrically opposite lenses? I didn't get to choose the date, and thus the moon position, but other than that... I figured it's still something I can work with.
A found old shot that I had never processed before, when going through some very old photos. This is the Mainz Cathedral in Germany. I took this just after getting my Tokina 12-24mm back in 2005 (purchased at Foto Öhling) and I was testing it out.

Stan,
I did some astro photography many years ago when the "ccd' camera was "the thing".
I have seen many, MANY photos of our Universe but I have to say, these are some of "thee" best I have ever seen from ANY camera.
The Johns Hopkins Hubble Space Astro lab was near me years ago and I saw what the Hubble did for images. Deep space is great BUT...no real "perspective" to compare.
Most excellent Stan!

Thank you for your kind words, Dan. A little bit of planning, some bribes, and the 14/1.4 (banged up or not) bring you a long way there these days. I'll keep trying for more (I still have a few from the two subsequent days, I have been very busy to process them so I'm lagging. Stay tuned!)
