Yeah, more realistically speaking a1 III would maintain the resolution and improve dynamic range.

Considering a9 IV needs to compete with R1 and R3, I would expect Sony to keep the resolution as is and prioritize lowering the base ISO from 250 to 100.

Alex said releases first week of June. But as always will depend on supply and demand to see if it will be hard to get early on.

Why would Sony keep the A9 and A1 series if both had global shutters?

The A1 and A9II both had stacked sensors. The A1 was pretty much just a higher resolution A9II when you really get down to it.

I see people point out that the lens release button seems to be photoshopped out in this picture. Some are guessing there is a C5 button in that area.

Yeah I noticed that. Very strange.

My Sony A7R5 does everything I need it to. It was a big improvement to the A7R3 which was my first Sony camera. I’m going to wait to see what the A1III looks like and if it’s really good, I’ll bite the bullet and buy it. It will very likely be the last camera I’ll ever need.

I am having a similar debate between Sony and Nikon. Part of me has been itching to upgrade my a7rIV, but the Z8 has become my favorite camera. With the rumors of the camera being more expensive than I was guessing, new batteries, a new menu, and non improving the grip, I'm wondering how much I really need more than 45mp.

The main thing I wish the Z8 had was pre capture raw. If the a7rVI truly is an a1II competitor for action, I may end up getting one to hold me over until the Z8II / Z9II comes out, but for some reason, the leaks have me less excited than I was expecting.

For dynamic range, I often use exposure stacking on the Z8. At 20fps, motion issues are almost non existent outside of very fast moving opbjects like cars. So I am curious what would work better 10fps with better dynamic range or 20fps with lower dynamic range but stacked.

IDK if this answers your question, but you're not the only one asking the same question. Looking fowards to seeing what gets released tmr

I tried the Nikon Z9, Z8, 600mm F4 TC and 800mm PF. I liked the lenses but not the cameras. So I sold them all. The Z9 is just way too big and heavy for me. The Z8 is still too big for me. The new Sony bodies with an L-bracket is PERFECT for me. I have medium size hands. I am too old to remember the menu/buttons of two systems. I didn't touch the Z8 for about a month, took it out for a walk at a park, the only buttons I knew how to use instantly were the power on/off and the shutter, I didn't even know how to change ISO. That was the moment I told myself to just stick with Sony. Besides, I really like how customizable the Sony cameras are and the super easy access to change exposure compensation, which is VERY important to me. I also have an infrared Canon R5 that I shoot maybe 10 times a year. I have trouble remembering how to access most of the functions.

We all have difference preference and priorities. That's perfectly fine. If one can't take good pictures with these cameras, it's most likely not the camera's problem.

I may buy an A7RVI to replace one of my two A1IIs. Will find out tomorrow...

I understand what you’re saying, Douglas. It was the same for me but opposite brands because I have decades of muscle memory with Nikon. For me it is not about one brand being better than another - it is solely about choosing gear that I love, that brings me joy, that I connect with. And personal preference ergonomics is a huge part of that. I recognize not everyone has these requirements. But I do. I have to be true to myself above all.

I might be late to this party but don't feel that Sony is quite ready to kill A1II sales (unless they're really low) which would mean that there is a major drawback or two on the Rvi or there will hopefully be an update to the A1II (and Sony is doing different from how they didn't really support the OG A1).

That said, guess we'll find out how accurate the rumors are tomorrow!

A1 II at this point probably has sold most of what it will. Now the A1 II will function to make the A7R VI look like a bargain. Sony will sell far more A7R VI's than they could the A1 II. Then there are the lens sales that it produces.

Eventually, Sony will update the A1 series with the A1 III. My guess would be the model will feature a high resolution global shutter sensor. But that won't be for a while.

I think Sony will market the heck out of this new A7R VI because it is a very strong release.

As soon as I picked up the handsome Z8, the feel in hand harkened back to the days of my beloved D850 - the greatest DSLR ever made - and I became a smitten kitten. I’ve been shooting the Z8 for nearly 4 months now, and I lost all desire to put an A7RV in my hand - the ergos of the Z8 just work for me unlike any mirrorless I have used. So my last A7RV was sold off.

Love the passion. I'm jumping back into photography now that my kids are old enough to do some sports (poorly), among other things I half want to try capturing.

I don't particularly have an ecosystem so was going to grab whatever the next flagship/adjacent release came out first. Roughly the Nikon Z9/Z8 ii vs Canon Mark R3 II (if it ever does!) vs Sony A7RVI (among other Sony candidates).

Will know for sure tomorrow, but trending 99% towards pre-ordering the Sony.

QUICKLY! While those IPAs are still flowing through you...
Which has better autofocus?! Z8 or A7RV?

It’s an amazing time to be buying, every brand has something quite wonderful to offer. There are a few notoriously biased brand-bashers here but I think most FM members would agree that you can’t go wrong - finding what fits your own personal preferences is the key factor.

There was no "just" about it. I may have been literally drooling when that thing was announced. Wasn't alone in that, either.

I looked at the Z8. Haven't handled one. But just looking reminded me how I liked the feel and handling of my D7200 and the D200 before that. But then I checked the weight, etc., and remember, also, how much I'd prefer carrying the lighter Sony gear I have now.

I think the real tempter for me would be one of the "silver" A7CRiis when (if?) they get here.

- If it doesn’t have a straight up down on-axis tilt screen it’s severely compromised for street and landscape photography…just like every single α7C. Whoever signed off on putting a video flappy screen on the α7CR should have bamboo stuck up their fingernails…because that is how much pain they are causing us landscape & street shooters.

- Yeah…every brand except Canon offers something compelling. It takes Canon shooters 3 moves to shoot from the hip while looking down at the screen, while it takes only one move with the α1 or α7RIVa. Checkmate

Dude I would rather throw my 400GM Prime into the ocean than ever step foot on Roan Mountain ever again. Those snowflakes at the Forest Service destroyed the coolest Shelter on the Appalachian Trail in 2023 by tearing down the Overmountain Shelter which is where you want to stay at before descending to 19E & Mountain Harbor (which has the best breakfast on the Appalachian Trail)

Luckily I was able to capture the Overmountain Shelter with 70-200GMII on the α7RIVa at sunrise fully lit with the sun at my back looking down at it from the Appalachian Trail and you can never get that shot ever again.
