Which has better autofocus?! Z8 or A7RV?”
Initial subject recognition - α7RV
Highest AF-C hit ratio on kinetic subjects - Z8
If you wanted to shoot f/1.2 at 85mm - 😭

My trick to manage GAS is the ownership of a lower-spec camera that delivers something special. Used to be a Fuji, but lately I've been enamored by the Nikon Z f. A film Leica/Rolleiflex/Hasselblad is actually unbeatable in that regard, but shooting film is not everyone's cup of tea.
Anyway, having a pure joy camera like that is a great everyday reminder of how little specs matter. I only pull out the A1 II when I absolutely require high speed AF-C.
Lenses, on the other hand... there's no cure. The trick is realizing that and to capitulate early: buy all the lenses.
“Dual USB-C. The first of them seems to have a screw lock hole?”
- Dual USB-C ports allows you to run the camera on a constant power source while simultaneously transferring files to a computer or recording to an external drive. Both ports will support charging, but only the lower port is designed for continuous power during operational use. I’m betting this is the camera that drops the new architecture for CF-A Gen 4 Write Speeds, and I’m curious if this camera will also be able to transfer data off CF-A Gen 4 cards through one of these ports at 1.8GBPS, which is more than doubling the write and read speed of the A1ai or A9iii.
See? If Sony had waited to release the real A1ii this year, they could have dropped the new battery and enable CF-Gen 4 write speeds. Then it could have been able to bump to 50-60FPS bursts at 50MP. They need to be able to draw more current in order to provide more power for double the write performance over any other camera out there
In just a few hours, you’ll understand I was right. $4000 for Pre-Capture, which could have been provided in a FW update is a joke. A1ai has the exact same video codecs as the OG A1 and it still can’t do 8K60, when the Z9 has been doing it for half a decade now with no answer from Sony
Now my logical mind sees the A7RVI specs and realizes that 50% more megapixels (compared to my Z8) will provide 25% more linear print width which matters to me,
<snip?
67 vs 46 MP is a 21% difference in linear dimension. While it is a considerable difference, it matters only if you print larger than 30" x 20".

I’ve been in situations where the right moment arrives, but I’ve mounted the wrong lens, or I was in the wrong place. I’ve printed 24”x36” with a bit over 1/3 of the full image. I’m currently editing images from my daughter’s A6700 and printing to 81/2”x11” and have been able to crop with great results. It all depends on what you need as an end product. Wonderful little camera…

Now retired at 79, I fully realize that material things can never bring us lasting joy, in life; but, those short-lived dopamine hits can be fun. Also, I spent the first part of my career designing cutting-edge high tech electronics, where acquiring the very latest technology components was an important key to my success. I've never been able to break that pattern of seeking "the latest and greatest".

It’s your money and your life, so follow whatever direction feels right to you. I’m halfway out of Sony and drifting back toward Nikon myself, so I’m not as hyped about this camera as I would’ve been a year ago, but there’s no denying it looks like an absolute killer body, even if it’s not a must‑upgrade for current A1 owners.
Lately I’ve been getting more excited about characterful lenses like Thypoch and Voigtländer. That special rendering is pulling me in harder than any new camera spec sheet. I just hope this path doesn’t eventually drag me all the way into Leica territory.
Ok Nevermind. I’m streaming it on a Sony Bravia TV and the TV is messing it up. When I switched to the iPad Pro the audio reverb is not present. False alarm, my apologies

Whoever is doing the livestream video of the announcement from NY should be fired by Sony. The audio reverb is crazy and everything Neal says is echoing. The audio setup is a joke. Now Matadors Kisha is talking the problem is still happening. Amateur hour, Sony 😭
I don't hear the audio reverb. It might be some issue on your end?
That whole presentation is pathetic so far. Goodness! For a big company like Sony, one would think the presentation would be well practiced and polished, but, nope!

This is insane. I’m with a bunch of people watching this live announcement and nobody can understand what Kisha is saying because of the audio reverb and constant echoing. Someone needs to fall on the sword, this is terrible by Sony
XLR-A4 with 32-bit float / 96kHz is interesting. Why they would drop this today and not on the day with the FX3ii announcement is interesting…this confirms the next Sony FF camera is FX or A7S
The illuminated buttons are a joke, and not needed and puts even more draw on the battery…. I never use a camera naked, it’s always in a protective rubber case for backpacking and all those buttons are covered up…making this feature completely unnecessary for my use case, but I know I’m an outlier
